Your mother carried you in her body for nine months. She changed her eating habits, gained an obnoxious amount of weight, gave up partying, and most of the time, even went without small vices like caffeine. All of this was to ensure your health as a baby. And we won’t even go into detail of what took place in order for you to actually be born, but I think you get the idea. Your mother took time off from work to give birth to you, and raise you for the first few months of your life. For some moms, that was time away from their personal mastery or calling in life, in order to take care of another life. Your mother woke up late at night to feed you, got thrown up on, and then put you back to bed. This list of things could go on and on. Exercise is one of the most important things that people with prolotherapy can do, whatever your age or level of fitness.

Now I know I’m not describing everyone’s mother, but those events alone are enough to make us think of different ways to live. Let’s take time to look at our own mothers. Each of them has lived a life that is different from the next, and has instilled in us something that makes us who we are. I’ll start us off here, but as you read, start to bring your awareness to what you have taken from your own mother and why those values are so important to you. Surgery to repair, strengthen or replace damaged joints may not be the only option when knee arthritis treatment is taken into consideration.

My mom was a hard-working woman when I was growing up. She had one child before me, and then was blessed with the news of having a beautiful baby girl whom she would name Shelby. Nine months later, when a ten pound, six ounce red-headed baby boy came out of her, you could assume she was a bit surprised. I’m still introduced this way to anyone I meet who is friends with my mom, which makes me feel very uncomfortable. But, let’s get on with my lesson. I grew up mostly with my grandparents, as we will get to later, because my parents worked long hours at blue collar jobs. My mom had her day jobs as well as waitressing at night. She lived a stressful life at times because of all this, so she was not one you could bullshit. It was as if she had a sixth sense in her that was able to sniff the truth out of you. Now, believe it or not, there were times growing up where I would test this in her, but to no avail. I literally couldn’t look her in the eyes if I was telling a lie. It only took a single phrase from her: “Dillon, look at me,” and my knees instantly buckled as I blurted out the truth. Being overweight or obese can make joint knee cartilage often makes osteoarthritis worse, as it places extra strain on some of your joints.

This seems simple, maybe even something similar to instances in your own childhood, but all my mom wanted out of me most of the time was the truth. Here is where my first value was instilled: the value of truth. And it wasn’t just me she got the truth from. She did the same thing to my brother, her family, and eventually, to herself, when the universe threw her a curveball of her own and she had to be completely honest. The evidence shows that people who are least active have more pain without prolozone therapy than people who do some form of exercise.

When I was nine years old, my mom was hit hard by life. My brother had recently moved out of the house, her fiancée at the time had left her, and to make matters worse, she felt a lump on her left breast. Yeah, you get where this is going. Now, the cancer was manageable and hadn’t grown or spread at all, but it was a wake-up call for someone who had her nine-year-old kid at home and was a branch manager and district trainer at a local bank. It was an experience I imagine shook her to her core and forced her to become brutally honest with herself. My mom was one who didn’t groove with the whole ‘chemotherapy’ thing, and with the stage of cancer she had, she didn’t fully have to groove with it. She instead looked inward and was truthful with herself. She equated the cancer to the stressful life she lived and made an honest choice to take conscious efforts to watch her stress, eating habits, and overall attitude toward life. Most of my friends who know my mom now wouldn’t believe the stress she used to carry around with her. She’s a spunky hippie who spreads love pretty much wherever she goes. She’s young at heart and is always sharing positive quotes with me over text. All it took for her to take control of her life was a bit of truth with herself, which is a value she instilled in her kids as well. Regular exercise that keeps you active, builds up muscle and strengthens the joints which in addition to knee arthritis usually helps to improve symptoms.
